This article is a part of a series of Teacher Spotlight articles that highlight educators here at Northbrook High School who strive to improve their classrooms daily.
Teachers become a big part of our lives because they teach us important subjects, but we would all of course like to know more about them (in my opinion).
Here at Northbrook, my experience with teachers has been a rollercoaster, there are really nice teachers you can be comfortable with and just regular teachers. I feel comfortable with a teacher I used to have for English, Mr. Segura.
Mr.Segura teaches English IV and English IV AP. He used to teach English I and II but not anymore, which is a lot of work and a lot of students; He believes that a good day at school would be interactions. He wants his students to build positive relationships in the classroom. He has built many positive connections with his students which makes him a great teacher. Of course with the work he has, he feels like there isn’t enough time to do grading and trying to cover the content for his class.
He has also noticed a difference between morning students and afternoon students; morning students are tired in a sense of waking up and more engaged. The afternoon students are tired in a sense of wanting to leave and aren’t very engaged with the classroom.
As much as he loves teaching his subject English he has also found an interest in the subject of creative writing. He is inspired by Mr. Martinez class due to how he presents himself being very passionate on the subject and overall intelligent, which gives Mr. Segura courage to do better. The more I learn more about Mr. Segura the more I hope to be able to attend his class next year.
