Harold Espinosa is a junior at Northbrook High School, along with being a versatile part in the schools junior varsity basketball team. Harold currently is in the schools science club and in the school’s honor society. With the many things Harold is involved in, I had the pleasure of sitting down and talking with him about himself, so he could give the world a bit more insight on the person Harold Espinosa is.
The offseason is typically the time when players get a break to relax and enjoy but many players also take this as an opportunity to practice, improve and get rid of mistakes that plague them during the season. Harold explained, “The offseason has been preparing me for next season, as I am learning to play more with my team as well as getting in game like scenarios which might happen during the season to craft me into a better player”
With the 2024 season coming up many wonder what will happen with the Northbrook JV team and he[Harold] said his “expectations this season are to do way better than last season and be a great role player to help contribute even more to my team.”
With so much time these players spend working and refining their skill that means they must be around their team mates often so often many wonder what being part of the team must be like.Harold mentioned that “The team chemistry is great, as I feel as though we all really connect with each other and everyone makes it feel like a family.”
The continued effort and care, the dedication Harold has to playing the sport of basketball it is interesting to know the, “One thing that inspires me on and off the court is my mom, as she is the greatest inspiration to me and I wanna make her proud even if it’s just playing basketball.”
With Harold being as passionate as he is about basketball he must be taking inspiration from someone with him claiming his top 5 favorite basketball players are: 1.Steph Curry, 2.Kobe Bryant, 3.Michael Jordan, 4.Allen Iverson, 5.Kyrie Irving. Interestingly he didn’t include one of the biggest names in basketball often said to be the greatest player of all time Lebron James with him later explaining, “that really just me personally his [Lebrons] play style is not one I like. I like smaller guards with a more versatile play style.”
To spend days and days doing one thing one must wonder why a person chose that as their passion here Harold was able to describe it be “peaceful” claiming with it “made me feel and know that it gave me a peace of mind.”
While Harold is able to have a lot of fun and just enjoy the moment at the end of the game he has to return back to working on his grades so he can still have the chance to be on the team saying that he [Harold] has to “make sure academics come first by doing all my academic work first, then I see if there are any volunteering opportunities when I don’t have basketball games or practice, that way so I can volunteer then I go to practice every day, finally making up space to make sure i show up for games.”
With Him[Harold] being in his junior year has a deadline from father time on when he’s done with high school and for him he said, “college is an obvious choice for me” specifying that he would like to go to Texas A&M or the University of Houston to study engineering and become an electrical engineer.
Harold then shared some wisdom for anybody who would read this, “I would say to always follow your dreams and to never give up, as for me that’s worked greatly.”
