To Ny was born and raised in a rural coastal town in Vietnam. However, at the end of 2019, To Ny immigrated to the United States with his family. Coming to a new country meant he would have to grow and learn in a new environment.
Challenge conformity
“With so many things to prepare, but I did not know where to start, living in a new culture, my life started from scratch,” said To Ny. All his difficulties came from the smallest things: traveling, going to school, eating, and daily activities, all of which were different from Vietnam.
As three years went by, To Ny was still struggling with conformity. His shyness in communication made it difficult for him to connect with friends, teachers, and everything around him. At that time, he always felt suffocated in his learning environment, and home was where Tony always felt most comfortable because that environment was very familiar to him.
“It is difficult to make new friends, especially with the language barrier. However, everyone here is amiable and sociable.” To Ny said. Even though he has studied English for many years, he still has challenges communicating and listening to lectures, which is understandable because English is his second language.
Step Out of the Comfort zone
To Ny has a passion for Tennis, and his development came from joining the Tennis club. Extracurricular activities have created opportunities for To Ny to work in groups, build relationships, and connect with people. This has helped Tony become more confident in communicating and interacting with others and is a milestone marking a dramatic change in him.
Every day, To Ny stays at school to practice with his teammates. He considers this his second home, a place that gives him great experiences and valuable opportunities to become who he is today.
In addition, Coach Blain plays a crucial role in To Ny’s life. Coach Blain not only inspires his passion for Tennis but also supports, encourages, and motivates him to become better. Throughout his participation in Tennis, his achievements and awards are the driving force that motivates him to be more passionate about Tennis.
After tireless efforts, To Ny has made breakthroughs in Tennis. He became the tennis team’s captain, and with his tireless passion, To Ny wanted to use his efforts to create more value for his club.
To Ny’s journey ahead will continue; challenges and difficulties will still appear in his maturity journey. Now, To Ny always accepts facing the challenges ahead because he believes that each difficulty helps him become more courageous and mature.
