Leadership Approach
Dr. Hyder takes a collaborative approach to leadership. His primary focus is that the whole school is benefited and not just him.”I do seek feedback from different people just to make sure that I make a decision that’s going to be beneficial to the whole school and not just from my perspective,” said Dr. Hyder. By prioritizing open communication and support he ensures that the school is a supportive environment where everyone can succeed.
Future Focus
At the end of this academic school year Dr. Hyder wants to accomplish several key objectives to make this a successful school year. His goal is to graduate more students from previous years. “My main goal for this school year is for us to graduate more students. For us to increase the scholarships and grant amounts students earn, and to increase culture and have students feel more connected to school.”
Accomplishments
During his three years as our principal, Dr. Hyder has achieved many things. “We’ve increased the number of students who are graduating. Not only have these numbers increased but also we have gained a larger amount of money for scholarships.” He proudly states, “I’m almost certain that we’ve increased our attendance over the last few years.” These accomplishments have created a more nurturing environment here at Northbrook High School.
Purpose
Ever since he was a teacher he knew he wanted to step up as an administrator. He first escalated to become a principal at Sheldon Elementary. “I thought I could be a principal for a high school at, and I could do the work that it takes because I had a lot of experience as a elementary principal.” He wanted something new and bigger, something that he had not experienced before.”I found that the position was open, they needed a principal here. I figured why not try the challenge of high school,” said Dr. Hyder. Not only did he want a challenge he also wanted to get to see his old students from Northbrook Middle for four more years.
Self Description
Everyone has different perspectives of you, but what is your perspective of yourself? Dr. Hyder has two different views, a personal one and a professional one. “On the personal level, I will consider myself to be an introvert, but I have to be an extrovert for work.” In his professional life he is system driven. He likes for there to be a process on how things happen and go. Not only that, he also considers himself to be student-centered. He tries to benefit all students on campus, balancing his personal and professional life.
