Marlon Henry is the Northbrook high school basketball point guard. His birthday is October 16th, 2008.
His parents and family are from Belize and has many other ethnicity’s to make up the person he is. Coming from different cultures and background has made his view of life very open.
Henry had heart surgery when he was just one years old. This surgery only granted him a 40% chance of living, and limited what he thought he was able to do. He couldn’t always play high tempo sports when he was younger because of the risk of his heart.
Soon later Henry began to play sports as it became okay for his heart. He started playing soccer. Soccer was the sport of passion that he had. Not long after, Marlon was introduced to basketball when he was in 5th grade. This became not only his passion but his love. Playing basketball you usually expect people to be tall, but Marlon is 5’5, and making an impact on the court and his opponents. In his interview we asked him what’s one thing he would want to change and he stated, “I’d I could change one thing about my self it would be my height to make my self taller.”
Henry’s dream college is the University of Texas Austin. His sister attends there, and he grew to love the campus, and school for their sports and many things. Marlon stated, “I would love to go to the University of Texas but if not, any school that would offer me a basketball scholarship.”
We asked his predicted record for this upcoming 2024-2025 season, and he stated, “I think we gonna win all except 1 or 2 in preseason then we gonna be 4th in district.” Northbrook hasn’t always been known for winning but with the passion that Marlon and his teammates have this year things may turn around. November 8th, 2024 will be the season opener for Marlon and the Northbrook Raider basketball team against their long time rivals the Spring Woods Tigers, at Spring Woods.
Aside from basketball Marlon takes family serious. It is one of his priorities, and one of the reasons that makes him a great person. Marlon has a open personality that makes people feel welcomed. When we asked him what his favorite holiday is he answered, “My favorite holiday is Christmas because I have the best memories.” With more context he loves the memories him and his family share during Christmas.
Marlon doesn’t just make his family his family, he makes sure his teammates are good and okay no matter the circumstances, and ensures everyone around him is okay before himself.
I [Marco Vargas] am also a part of the Northbrook basketball team and Marlon makes the team feel like a brotherhood, rather than a group of players playing together. We have grown stronger and stronger as a team as days go by.
