I interviewed a fellow Northbrook High School student who plays soccer. Mainly, i decided to interview this fellow student because he’s been playing soccer for a while now and i thought it would be nice to ask him about his journey and see what type of advice he has for up and coming players.I asked him a series of questions and here are the answers:
So, go ahead and introduce yourself for the interview, let the people know who you is:
“My full name is Aldo Toledo. I am 17 years old and am a senior in this school. That’s really about it.”
We know you play soccer, but why don’t you tell us more about what you play? What position? How do you play? Any ways of preparation?
“I play Center Back on the soccer team. I’ve been playing since freshman year. Any time I step on the field I get ready to win the game. I like to warm up before a game by doing some basic drills.”
So, what motivated you to start playing?
“Ever since I was a kid I was interested in the game. I always found peace in the field and always planned on playing when I grew up. Doing this and playing the game is what makes me happy.”
What motivates you to keep playing and try your best every game? Especially after so long, some people may experience burnout or fall off. What do you say?
“Well like I said, I like the game and always wanted to play. I also wanna do my best to make my mom proud, as she means a lot to me for raising me and pushing me to do better every game and improve.”
What do you see yourself doing in the future? Do you plan on continuing to play or maybe go to college and play there?
“I wanna continue playing and even get into bigger teams. Soccer is my passion and I don’t really think I’ll stop anytime soon.”
Why do you like the sport so much? Where does the passion come from?
“It’s fun. When you have the right team and the right mindset, every game helps you push yourself to be the best version of yourself. You can express yourself on the field by just playing.”
Starting out and going into your first games definitely seems intimidating. What would you tell someone who is just starting out?
“Even though you will lose many games, improving and practicing will get you a long way towards reaching your goals. Anytime I lost or felt like I played badly, I practiced and tried to move on. To do better the next game”
Any final thoughts or fun facts about yourself?
“I mainly use my right leg to play.”
Why?
“Because it’s the most comfortable and its my dominant one. I know some people who play with their left leg and i can’t, it feels weird. That’s the first fun fact i could think off.”
