The Bandoleras are hardworking ladies who practice from dusk to dawn early mornings and late nights, hoping to keep the tradition going. Dance should be considered a sport because it requires physical strength, discipline, and team work just like any other athletic activity. For instance, dancers in drill teams practice very hard to be sharp and keep their movements in sync. Bandoleras spend hours working on routines, getting ready for games and on top of everything get ready for a new season. The hard work we put into our team makes us stronger in our performances. Unlike other sports, the Bandoleras are in season all year, which means they put as much dedication as they can each season. The Bandoleras may be tired from practices, but they keep pushing hard to become the best dancer they can be. Just like athletes, dancers also face injuries, strict practice schedules and competition pressure.
In addition, dance is not just glitter and smiles, dance takes strength like mental and physical. During the summer the Bandoleras worked hard and practiced to plan performances and their bodies stronger, as well as other teams over the world. They also practice all summer long from 8am to 4:30pm. Dance shouldn’t be overlooked because it looks like glitter and smiles. Kicking is one of the hardest, but dancers can do it any day. Dancing a whole 2 minutes can be like holding a plank for 2 minutes, which not many people can do. Kicking in the heat while wearing a five pound outfit as well as a 2 pound hat that could stab your scalp, is not easy at all. Many people attempt but many people fail.
