This year’s transfer market will surely go down as one of the biggest in recent sports history, if not all of sports history, with many big-name transfers like Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Sergio Ramos. Lionel Messi, arguably the best, or one of the best, soccer players of all time, moved away from Barcelona after 21 years of being at the club. Messi’s departure comes as many of the biggest clubs in Europe shuffle their players around to try and heal their finances that were negatively affected by the pandemic.

Barcelona was forced to let their best player leave for free after the league notified them that they needed to lower their salary budget to register any of their new signings to play for this season. Because of this, the only realistic options for Messi to go were Manchester city of England and Paris Saint Germain from France, the only two clubs able to pay his astronomically high salary of 620,000 euros a week. Messi chose to go to the French capital, where he will be teammates with former el Classico rival Sergio Ramos, and with this came the most significant transfer of recent history.

Another transfer that hit big during 2021 was Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to the English football club Manchester United. On August 27, 2021, after 3 years in Juventus, he was bought from his contract for roughly 26.52 million British pounds and was to be paid 510,000 pounds weekly to be brought to his first home, where he was brought to his first home it all started. There were a few rumors of Manchester City wanting to buy Ronaldo. Still, it would be like betraying the club that helped him succeed, ¨if you play for Manchester United, you can’t play for Manchester City,¨ is what people were saying. The transfer was already expected. Ronaldo no longer wanted to play for Juventus. He said he no longer had intentions of playing there.

Another transfer that hit big during 2021 was Sergio Ramos transfer to Paris Saint Germain. On July 8, 2021, after 16 years in Real Madrid, his contract expired, and he decided to join PSG bought his contract for 60 millions of euro plus a signing bonus of 9 million euros he was to be paid 338,000 euros weekly, he was a loyal player for staying with Real Madrid for 16 years. Sergio Ramos was not expected to leave Real Madrid because of his leadership, and he was catching up to be the most outstanding center-back of all time. Still, his contract was about to expire, and all expected to resign with Real Madrid. he decided to join another team and join PSG.
