Isaiah Lenix is a boy getting used to his new school in a way. Isaiah goes to Northbrook High School and plays on the boys varsity basketball team. Before this, the crazy thing is, he just moved here last year. Isaiah was born in Cleveland, Ohio. The reason he moved here was because his mom got a cool job down here.
Isaiah moved here with his cousin as well. When I ask how he felt moving away from his old life, he said he loves it better in Houston. It’s crazy that he has only been here for just a year! Isaiah started playing basketball at 13 and has been practicing his game. What he does on his off time he says, “I sleep, play video games and spend time with his family.” In a talk with Isaiah I was able to talk to him about school. He says, ¨I don’t like school. I never did. I am only here to get it over with, than go to college to play basketball and get money.¨
A funny conversation between me and Lenix was when I interviewed him I asked him why do you play basketball?
He answered with a smile. “For fun, and to get a scholarship.” After that I asked him how his life is going?
He said, ¨It’s cool. He loves being here and I don’t wanna go back to Ohio.” Next I asked him about his life when he was in Ohio. He said, ¨I mean it was boring not that much to do you know.¨
This shows how much Lenix likes it better over here compared to Ohio. I ask him what his favorite color was he said purple and blue, a very common favorite between us.
What do you want to be when you grow up? “I want to be an NBA player, but if that doesn’t work then I want to be a Surgical technician.”
I was listening to him speak about what he wants to do, and he truly the number one goal for him is to definitely go to the NBA for his dream job. After that question What three colleges do you want to go to. He replies, “Number one I want to go to the University of Texas, Second, LSU, and my third one UH.”
The last question that I was able to ask Lenix before the time was up is how will he make his dreams a reality? He replies by saying,¨Basketball is my number one goal and I am going to practice every single day two to three hours a day working on every single thing that comes to basketball to achieve my dream goal.”
While I was doing this interview for Isaiah Lenix I was thinking to myself that this person is putting in the work for his goals in life and he is not going to give up. High respect for him. He is a hooper and he is going to achieve his goals.
