Pacers Hires Nate Bjorkgren As New Coach

Nate Bjorkgren appears to Indiana after contributing 2 seasons as an assistant on Nick Nurse’s staff in Toronto. The Indiana Pacers hired Nate Bjorkgren to be their following head coach, the team reported it and there are already many reports.

“Nate Bjorkgren has been with me a long time,” Nurse said, “He was with me in the minor league with the Iowa Energy, then he coached a long time in the D-League and the G- League and obviously has been with me in Toronto here. He’s going to be a finalist for the Pacers job and he’s a good one.”

Bjorkgren worked his way over from being a high school coach to going to Arizona to the G- League and winning a championship in 2011, being an assistant on the 2019 Raptors championship team, and now at a head coaching job.

Nurse and Bjorkgren have not only coached together through the G-League and the NBA, but have also gone face-to-face as coaches too. Through one of the championships for the D-League, Bjorkgren’s Santa Cruz Warriors and Nurse’s Rio Grande Vipers, and later after they talked Bjorkgren said he said that they could be working together in the future.

“He said,’ There’s no reason why we couldn’t do this at the next level, Bjorkgren said in an interview with the Des Moines Register after the Raptors won the NBA championship. “ And sure enough, he’s been right on different counts  and he was right there again.”

Bjorkgren will be joining him in the head coaching ranks in the NBA. From the hiring of Bjorkgren, the Pacers are hoping that their new coach will finally get this team over the hunch of many first-round exits in the postseason.

This is a big team that hasn’t reached the top yet, they could do better then they think they could. Bjorkgren just might bring that to them.
