Tyler Segura is an English teacher at Northbrook High School, and he has been working there for the past 4 years. He had an amazing childhood experience, he lived in Louisiana until the age of 7, then moved to Texas and started a new life. Segura made great friends that he still talks to till this day, and that impacted his life severely.
Segura attended Sam Houston State University for his Bachelors of Arts, and Master of Arts in English. He also attended Drexel University for his Master degree in library and information studies. These degrees expanded his understanding of the world and himself.
He decided to become a teacher during the pandemic in 2020, although he had already started his teacher certification years earlier but never finished it, but the pandemic helped him rise to the occasion and finally accomplish his teacher certification and take the step into a teaching role. As he stated ‘’ being a teacher has opened up a well of compassion within me. I had already considered myself to be kind and caring, but stepping into the classroom added so much more depth to those emotions”. Segura has learned a lot by interacting with his students, and they have helped him grow into a better person.
If Segura was not a teacher, and he could be doing anything else, he would bee beekeeper, although he is allergic. He also has always dreamed of becoming a private detective, but their finances are not the best. He also originally pursued Psychology in college, but he eventually made this degree his minor instead of his major. He would also really enjoy becoming a therapist and being able tohelp others.Some of his hobbies include playing video games, and reading. Occasionally he also listens to audiobooks while playing video games so he enjoys both hobbies at the same time! Segura is very passionate about Star Wars, every summer he watches every movie and TV show from start to finish. As he expressed“ My favorite character Ahsoka recently had her own live-action tv show, which I loved”. He is looking forward to adding it into his watching rotation this coming summer.
The best advice Segura could give to a student who is struggling with what potential career to choose would be to take the time to think about the things that you enjoy/find passion in and pursue a career most closely aligned with it. He states “ You are going to be working the majority of your life, so you might as well pursue something that will make you happy ’’. On the other hand he states that the best piece of advice he has received is “Breathe”, for it is simple and provides a foundation to center himself.
